Where is my data stored?
We use Microsoft hosting centres based in Dublin in the EU. We have requested that your data remains in the EU. We use the latest security and the most up to date database software.
Can you guarantee my data is safe?
No. We do our best (and our best meets the highest industry standards), but sometimes systems are compromised despite best efforts. You can limit your exposure by making sure you don't record anything too personal in the notes field.
Is my data encrypted?
Your password is stored using one way "hashing". It is impossible for anyone to reverse this. When you enter your password to login it is "hashed" again and if it matches the stored hash we let you in. The only possible way anyone can find out your password is by guessing it or if you give it to them.
The rest of your data is not encrypted as it would be impractical and would be unlikely to prevent anyone stealing it regardless. The best way to protect your data is to use a great password and keep it safe.
Who can see my data?
At the moment anyone who has your password (that's for you to take care of), and anyone who works for Perfidious Albert. At the time of writing Perfidious Albert is a husband and wife team based in Ireland. We don't outsource work so it's just us.
What do you use my data for?
See our privacy policy.
We will send you an occasional email (at the moment we never send an email, but we might in future) where we might offer you a deal, or try to sell you something of interest. We WILL NOT send you an email based on your data. In other words if you get an email from us THE ONLY REASON you received it is that you are using our software. You will never get an email that is tailored to you because of your weight, height, gender, etc.
If you want us to stop sending you emails (if we ever start) then just hit unsubscribe at the bottom of the email - we won't even ask you to stop using the software. If you want us to delete your data from our databases completely then just pop us an email and you will be gone.
We will use aggregated data to produce statistics or interesting information. An example of this would be a quote along the lines of "27% of the users of Paranoid Fat Bastard record their blood pressure every week". We will never use individual or identifiable data for any reason.
Why would I not just use MyFitnessPal?
Do if you want, but according to CommonSense.org MyFitnessPal comes with the following warnings...
- Unclear whether personal information is sold or rented to third parties.
- Personal information is shared for third-party marketing.
- Personalised advertising is displayed.
- Data are collected by third-parties for their own purposes.
- User's information is used to track and target advertisements on other third-party websites or services.
- Unclear whether this product creates and uses data profiles for personalised advertisements.
We don't do any of the above. Should you care? Maybe not - but our software is just as good and doesn't do any of the that sneaky stuff. Admittedly we don't track nutrition like MyFitnessPal does, but we might some day.
Can you integrate with Apple Watch, Pixel Watch, Fitbit, RunKeeper, etc?
We have built the app so that we can do so in future, but for now, no.
Have you a phone app?
It could be easily done and we will no doubt do it some day soon, but for now, no. If you are a potential partner and this is something you need then we can work with you.
Have you any nutrition or health qualifications?
No. And we don't offer any advice either. This app simply records numbers against headings. What you do with the numbers is up to you.
